Each year we count the smolt – the fish that are ready to go out to the ocean waters in Maxwelton Creek. We have a trap that is permitted by WDFW and fits over the culvert under French Rd. The trap sieves out the fish from the water and the fish are held in a tank. Twice a day our volunteers go to count the fish and release them onĀ  their way.

Volunteers of all ages, and abilities are welcome, so if you are interested get in touch with us in April, and we’ll get you involved.

Each year, we install the trap during the month of May, when the smolt begin to move toward the salt water triggered by water temperature changes.

Volunteers remove the fish from the trap, and identify them, and can take a picture of their "catch" in our photarium.
